OAKVILLE—The Acorns dropped a 14-3 mercy rule-shortened loss to Naselle in 1B Coastal League action here Thursday. The Comets opened a three run lead in the first and never looked back, adding four runs in each of the third and fourth innings.

Anna White and Cidney McIlvaine both went 2 for 3 for Oakville, with White adding an RBI. The Acorns were out hit 14-6 in the game.

Taylor Eaton pitched a complete game for Oakville.

“We came out flat,” Oakville coach Mark Johnson said. “We’d been playing well. It’s a funny thing, our girls’ attitudes were good. But we seemed a half step slow. Didn’t feel like we had the edge.”

For Naselle, Kelly Matthews was 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, and Tracey Ford was 3 for 4 with two RBIs.

This was our chance against a team that’s right above us in standings,” Johnson said. “Hopefully we’ll snap back.”

Oakville (9-4, 2-3 in league) plays at Lake Quinault on May 2 in another 1B Coastal League matchup.
