Prep Track: Justice Posts Best Prelim Time in 300 Hurdles

CHENEY — Pe Ell’s Tyler Justice posted the best qualifying time — 40.41 seconds — in the 300 meter hurdles on Day 1 of the State 2B track meet at Eastern Washington University.

The meet continues Friday and concludes Saturday.

Adna’s Austen Apperson, a freshman, placed 11th in the 1600, crossing the finish line in 4:40.60. Asotin’s Thomas Weakland took first in 4:21.41.

In girls action, Napavine’s Mollie Olson qualified for the 300 hurdles in 46.94 seconds, the third-best qualifying time behind Raymond’s Karlee Freeman and NW Christian’s (Lacey) 46.75.

Morton-White Pass freshman Kaylen Collette was 13th in the 3200, finishing in 13:16.98.

TACOMA — Rochester’s Journey Fortner took sixth in the discus here Thursday on Day 1 of the State 2A Track and Field Championships.

Fortner, a senior, posted a best toss of 140 feet, 11 inches. Bellingham’s Jakob Chamberlain won the event by over 19 feet at 177-04.

W.F. West’s girls and boys 4x400 relay teams both ran their preliminary races, but missed qualifying for the finals.
