Prep Boys Soccer: United Edges La Center

LA CENTER — Isaac Garibay scored three times, and United slipped past La Center, 3-2, here Thursday in 1A Trico League boys soccer action.

Garibay scored in the second minute, on an assist from Andreas Malunat, then again in the 68th and 71st minutes on assists from Thomas Ethridge and Leandro Belmok.

The win keeps the Toledo-Winlock squad undefeated in Trico play at 2-0, and improves the team’s overall record to 2-3-1. United hosts White Salmon on Tuesday in another Trico match.

Rochester Holds Off Montesano for First Win



MONTESANO — John Mejia scored the game-winning goal in the 70th minute, leading Rochester to a 2-1 win over Montesano here Thursday in nonleague boys soccer action.

Enrique Sanchez-Hope scored the Warriors’ first goal five minutes into the second half, though Montesano answered to tie things up and set up Mejia’s game-winner.

“It was a very good game by both teams. It was a pretty close comparison between the quality of play,” Rochester coach Matt Ashton said. “But a lot of our freshmen that we have on this varsity team stepped up to play a really good game, as well.”
