Prep Baseball: Rochester Gets Past Sedro-Woolley

SEDRO-WOOLLEY — Josh Larson put down a squeeze bunt to bring home the eventual game winner as Rochester disposed of Sedro Woolley 5-4 here on Friday in nonleague baseball action.

It was the Warriors’ first action in more than a week, thanks to spring break.

“I was very happy with our pitching and what they were able to do,” Rochester coach Jerry Striegel said.

Sedro-Woolley outhit the Warriors, 7 to 6, but Rochester got the base knocks when they counted. The Warriors notched 2 runs in the first inning and got a 2-run double from Andy Somer in the second before Larson’s squeeze bunt brought across what would be the deciding run.

That’s how the Warrior side of the scoreboard would remain until the end.

“We would have liked to be more competitive at the plate than we were, but we got it done,” Striegel said.

Brock Hawes was 2 for 3 with a double, while Curtis Haley also had a base hit. Brandon Rogers started the game on the mound for the Warriors and strike out six while allowing just five hits. Hawes relieved Rogers in the fourth and struck out five.

Rochester (6-3, 4-2 league) plays at Tumwater today at 1 p.m.
