Napavine in Top Spot in Preseason AP Poll

Posted

Napavine, a year removed from a spot in the State 2B championship game, held the top spot in the first installment of the Associated Press statewide football rankings.

Napavine was at or near the top of the rankings throughout last season, and returns a handful of starters from the 2014 team that finished the year 12-1.

Toledo, a state semifinalist in 2014, was ranked No. 5, while Pe Ell-Willapa Valley — which, in its first year as a combination squad, reached the first round of the state playoffs — was ranked No. 7 in the 2B poll.

W.F. West, which lost to Woodland in a winner-to-state crossover game last season, was ranked No. 10 in the 2A poll. The Bearcats open the season at home against Kingston on Friday, Sept. 4, and return over half of their starters from last year's squad.

Defending state champion Sedro-Woolley was ranked No. 1 in the 2A poll, with Tumwater second and Lynden third.

Adna was just outside the top 10 with 25 points in the 2B poll, just behind Reardan and Brewster, who tied for ninth with 26 points apiece. Also out of District 4, North Beach was ranked No. 4 and Raymond No. 8.
