NAPAVINE — Napavine’s Makensee Taliaferro Bouge buried a penalty kick in overtime to help the Tigers earn a 2-1 win against Ocosta in a Central 2B League girls soccer game here on Monday.

Taliaferro Bouge was fouled in the box in the 4th minute of a five-minute overtime period and was able to score the game-winning goal.

Ocosta got on the board first in the 23rd minute on a goal by Kianna Battiste. Napavine didn’t allow that lead to last long, with Natalya Marcial scoring on an assist by Chloe Stewart to tie the game at intermission.

Napavine coach Emily McCarthy was proud of goalkeeper Zaylii Orozco, who stopped two Ocosta penalty kicks.

“They played amazing. They played great in the first game against Ocosta last week and knew they had to come out and do it again tonight,” McCarthy said. “We won both games, the first time we’ve swept Ocosta in four or five years.”

McCarthy also commended the play of Mercedez Becerra, stepping in and playing well at outside back.

“Shoutout to the whole team. Not just the players on the field but also the players on the sideline,” McCarthy said. “We’re working really hard on mental toughness, just keeping our mental game with our physical game and I think that really showed tonight.”

Napavine (4-4, 0-1) hits the road to face Life Christian on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Tacoma.

Winlock Falls to Toutle Lake

WINLOCK — Winlock struggled offensively against the Ducks here on Monday, falling to Toutle Lake 3-2 in a Central 2B League girls soccer game.

It was a scoreless first half, although Winlock had quite a few chances to score in the opening 40 minutes.

Toutle Lake’s Haleigh Swofford started the scoring in the 55th minute. Chloe Payne made it 2-0 Ducks in the 63rd minute and the lead increased to three in the 64th minute on a goal by Kaydence King.

Winlock dug deep and tried to mount a comeback. Gabby Cruz scored on an assist by Elizabeth Wolfe in the 73rd minute and the Cardinals cut the lead to 3-2 on a Wolfe goal in the 75th minute with an assist by Alexa Barragan.

The Cardinals had chances, including a breakaway, but couldn’t tie the game as the Ducks held on for the win.

Kiya Peppers made six saves in net for the Cardinals.

Winlock coach Brian Ziese was frustrated that his team had several chances but only scored two goals.

“We had tons of chances. We had a couple hit the crossbar and just could not find the net on them,” Ziese said. “The first half, the first 20 minutes, we dominated with shot after shot but it was right to the keeper. We could not get a goal to go in for us if our life depended on it. We worked so hard and could not find the back of the net tonight.”

Winlock (1-4-2, 0-1) travels to Ilwaco on Wednesday for a C2BL game.

Adna Trounces Ilwaco

ADNA — The Pirates opened up Central 2B League games with a dominant performance, defeating Ilwaco 9-0 here on Monday.

Adna scored four goals in the first half. Zarine Walker scored first in the 10th minute on an assist from Joey Swenson. Cierra Swenson booted in a penalty kick and was followed by Payton Aselton notching a goal on another assist by Joey Swenson in the 21st minute. Cierra Swenson scored her second of the night in the 23rd minute on an assist by Summer White.

Payton Aselton scored in the 44th and 56th minutes to complete the hat trick with an assist from Jordyn Swenson on Aselton’s 44th minute goal. Cierra Swenson completed her own hat trick with goals in the 62nd and 68th minutes. Faith Wellander tallied the final goal of the game in the 75th minute.

“They actually played really well. We’ve done a lot of talking about moving. It’s so easy for us to get to where we stand around a lot, even if we push up to the other team’s box,” Adna coach Juli Aselton said. “What we’ve been trying to install in the girls, don’t stand, cut around, overlap, and we did that against Aberdeen and did that tonight also. We’ve never seen Ilwaco play before, it was our first time up against them. They’re obviously a learning team, still just our passing and moving and overlapping and talking tonight was well done. We weren’t standing there taking shots and were making things happen.”

Adna goalkeeper Makaela Meister didn’t see a shot come her way and played in the field in the second half.

Adna (5-2-1, 1-0) hosts Onalaska on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in a league contest.

Kalama Takes Down Toledo

TOLEDO — The Chinooks were too much for the hometown Indians in a 3-1 win in a Central 2B League girls soccer game here on Monday.

The Chinooks’ Sophie Given scored in the 62nd to take the lead and added an insurance goal in the 80th minute.

Toledo goalkeeper Kaylee Veigel made 16 saves in the loss. The Indians had six shots with one shot on target.

“We played good, started good, had them on their backs for the first 10 mintues and got the goal. The girls were really excited, never played Kalama this tough, never beat them before,” Toledo coach Noel Vazquez said. “It was a good momentum shift. We felt confident and then everything just swung in the 30th minute when they tied the game up. The girls played hard and at the end of the game, there were a good amount of girls crying because I know they wanted it really bad.”

Vazquez gave kudos to Veigel, stepping up and making big saves to keep Toledo in the game after becoming team captain last weekend.

Toledo (5-3, 0-1) hosts Ocosta on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in a C2BL game.

Note: Onalaska defeated Life Christian 5-0 in Onalaska on Monday. The Loggers (5-1-1, 1-0) travel to Adna on Wednesday for a league game.
