ONALASKA — Onalaska had 10 players score to help the Loggers earn a 66-33 win over Mossyrock in a nonleague boys basketball game here on Friday.

Cade Lawrence led the Loggers with 19 points, with Ashton Haight adding 12.

Mossyrock’s Justin Gootgeld scored 15 points and teammate Lucas Johnson added 10.

A few forced turnovers by the Loggers early helped set the tone, Logger coach Dennis Bower said, though he noted his team missed plenty of open shots.

“I thought we were able to play everybody and everybody played hard,” Bower said. “Gootgeld had 15 points and he had to really earn them, Johnny (Wells) did a good job on him. First time out, I’m pleased.

“We’re going to take our lumps along the way,” he added. “I like our energy. We’re going to be a fun group to watch.”

It was almost three minutes before the first basket was scored, but the offense got going and the Loggers led 14-8 after one quarter. Onalaska kept it going in the second and led 30-18 at halftime.

Onalaska (1-0) travels to Rainier for a league game Tuesday, while Mossyrock (0-2) hosts Toledo in a league game on Tuesday.

Warriors Beat Orting, Improve to 2-0

ROCHESTER — Stephen Robinson’s big game carried Rochester to a 51-47 win over Orting here Friday night in nonleague 2A boys basketball.

Robinson, a senior guard, scored 19 points with eight rebounds and went 8 of 9 at the foul line as the Warriors fended off their opponents down the stretch.

“He kind of had a mismatch going, and we were able to get it to him,” Rochester coach Mark Goldrick said. “He’s not really a big kid, but he can play big.”

Bryce Lollar added 12 for Rochester, which shot 14 of 45 from the floor and 17 of 24 from the foul line.

“The shooting’s not quite there yet. We’re kind of rushing a lot of things, but I don’t want to sound all negative,” Goldrick said. “We learn from them, and we were able to close it out.”

Isaac Jones led Orting with 11 points.

Rochester (2-0) hosts Montesano on Tuesday.
