Friday's Prep Baseball: Pirates Shut Down Mossyrock 8-2

ADNA — Adna scored five runs in the fourth inning here Friday afternoon to break things open and cruise to an 8-2 win over Mossyrock in Central 2B League baseball action.

Chance Fay hit a two-run triple, Sawyer Burdick went 2 for 3 with an RBI and Levi Gates was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for Adna.

Burdick started on the mound and worked three innings, with Gates tossing the next three.

Mossyrock managed two hits, but the Vikings’ runs both came in innings with errors, Pirate coach Jon Rooklidge pointed out.

“Our pitchers looked good,” he said. “We make a couple basic plays, and it’s a little different in those innings, but other than that, the pitchers threw well.”

Adna (3-0) plays at Wahkiakum on Tuesday. Mossyrock (0-1) hosts Rainier on Tuesday.

Chinooks Stymie Loggers

ONALASKA — Kalama was able to best Onalaska in a Central 2B League matchup by a score of 7-1 here on Friday.

The Chinooks scattered nine well-timed hits in the contest and played error-free baseball. Tommy Brandenburg pitched the first six innings for the Chinooks and surrendered just one run along the way.

“They’re good. I mean, they are a final four team and they’ve got their key ingredients back. We knew they were going to be good,” said Onalaska coach Rocky Stanley. “They are solid. They hit the ball and they've got excellent pitching. Brandenburg is probably a top-three pitcher in the league.”

Onalaska scored their only run of the game in the fourth inning when AJ Volk led off with a single before Cole Christensen drove him home with and RBI single.

“We strung together three of our five hits,” Stanley said of the fourth inning.

Stanley was sure to emphasize the legitimacy of Kalama’s team this year.

“You’ve got to earn every run because they don’t give you anything. Wilson is the best catcher in the league. A four year starter and nothing gets by him,” added Stanley.

Onalaska (2-1, 1-1 league) will play at Ocosta on Tuesday.

Mules No-Hit Morton-White Pass

RANDLE — Wahkiakum’s pitching staff didn’t allow a hit here Friday night, blanking Morton-White Pass 16-0 in C2BL baseball action.

The Mules picked up 12 hits and scored 10 runs in the top of the sixth inning.

“They looked really good,” MWP coach Pete Dayton said. “They’ve got good pitching, and they’re very sound, defensively.”

Dylan Richards, Mason Higdon, Dylan Hamre and Eathan Smathers all pitched for MWP, which committed just one error in the contest.

“We played really well defensively, and we put together some good at-bats,” Dayton said. “Honestly, we played a tight gave for over five innings. The final score kind of wasn’t reflective of the first two hours of the game. It was kind of like five bad minutes happened and then it was kind of out of reach.”

Morton-White Pass (0-1) plays at Toutle Lake on Tuesday.

Toledo and King’s Way Finish in a Tie Due to Darkness

TOLEDO — There wasn’t enough daylight for Toledo and King’s Way Christian to determine a winner as the game ended in a 6-6 tie in a non-league baseball game here on Friday.

Bryce Marcil had two hits including a double and two RBI’s and had a great defensive play in the third inning, catching a ball in centerfield and then throwing out a guy at home plate for a double play to end the inning.

Ryan Bloomstrom had an RBI double and two hit by pitches and Rowdy Kirkendoll had an RBI single in the first inning.

“It was decent weather as far as the sun being out. It was a non-league game, wish we would have got our first win,” Toledo coach Jeff Davis said. “Maybe it’s right around the corner, we’re gaining more confidence.”

Toledo (0-2-1) hosts Napavine on Tuesday in a Central 2B League game.

Tigers Top Winlock

NAPAVINE — Friday was a good day for the Tigers’ JV squad as they defeated Winlock 23-3 in five innings of non-league baseball action.

Napavine posted runs in every inning and exploded for eight runs in the third and fourth innings to put the game well out of reach. The Tigers wrapped 10 hits in the game but nine errors by Winlock helped out their cause.

Tyler Bray started the game on the mound for Winlock but miscues in the field undid his outing which ended after 2 ⅓ innings. Lukis Tamburello, Alijah Sanders, and Conner Gilreath split the relief duties the rest of the way.

Scott Burdick started the game on the mound for Napavine and Deacon Parker finished things off.

Aiden Groves had three hits for Napavine and Jacob Crisp added two knocks.

Winlock mustered six hits on the day. Nathan Suhrbier, who handled the catching duties, was 2 for 2 at the plate with a walk and a run scored. Sanders had an identical line while Tamburello and Bray added a hit each.

Winlock (0-1) will play at Onalaska on Monday.

W.F. West Crushes Lynden

RIDGEFIELD — Leandre Gaines got it done on the mound and at the plate for W.F. West here on Friday, helping the Bearcats earn a 12-2 win in five innings against Lynden in a non-league baseball game.

Gaines was 4 for 4 at the plate with two doubles, two runs and five RBIs and Josiah Johnson was 3 for 4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Max Taylor recorded two hits including a double and two RBIs and Brock Jones had two doubles, an RBI and three runs for the Bearcats.

On the mound, Gaines started and threw the first three innings, allowing one hit and no runs with six strikeouts. Daniel Fagerness pitched two innings and allowed no runs, no hits and two strikeouts.

The Bearcats scored a run in the first inning before opening the game up with five runs in the second inning. W.F. West plated four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to close the game in five innings.

W.F. West plays at 4 p.m. in Ridgefield against a to-be-determined opponent.

Centralia Punishes Hoquiam at the Beach

SEASIDE — The Tigers pounded out 13 hits and 13 runs here on Friday in order to down Hoquiam 13-2 in non-league baseball action.

Centralia scored 10 runs in the first inning to announce their presence with authority and kept adding on from there. In the first frame alone the Tigers belted out seven hits and had three batters hit by pitches.

Robbie Aldrich, Cameron Erickson and Derek Beairsto each had two hits and an RBI on the day. Colby Steele was 3-3 at the plate with a double and three RBIs.

“We came out and the kids had a real good approach at the plate. We squared up some balls and it just kind of snowballed from there,” said Centralia coach Rex Ashmore. “We took advantage of what they gave us.”

Beairsto pitched the first three innings and change for Centralia before handing the ball over to Zackary Rone to close things out.

“I couldn’t have been more proud of the way these guys came down here and played,” said Ashmore. “I thought Derek was solid. He got a little tired there in the fourth and then Zach Rone came out in his first varsity appearance and threw the ball very well.”

Centralia (2-0) will play Seaside tomorrow in Seaside at 4:45 p.m.
