CC Women: Trailblazers Power Past Pierce

TACOMA — The Lady Blazers scored 20 points in three of four quarters while downing Pierce College 72-55 in NWAC West Region women’s hoops action here on Wednesday. Alisha Sorensen scored 22 points and hauled in 11 rebounds, while teammate Monty Cooper also scored 22 and collected 10 rebounds.

Centralia forced 20 turnovers to score 28 points, while shooting 40 percent from the field. The Lady Blazers led 32-26 at halftime, led by 8 points after the third quarter and outscored Pierce 20-11 in the final stanza.

Pierce shot 27 percent from the field and was led by Quashaya Hammon’s 13 points and 12 rebounds.



Katie Whitten scored 10 points and Susan Kenney added 9 points for the Trailblazers. Whitten also added 8 assists, while Kenney dished out six assists.

Centralia (17-7, 8-1 league) hosts Tacoma on Saturday.
