CC Women: Balanced Lady Blazers Beat SPS

OLYMPIA — Five of the seven Lady Blazers suited up scored in double figures, and Centralia used a big first-half lead to hold off South Puget Sound, 68-60, here Wednesday in NWAC West Region women's basketball play.

Monty Cooper came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points for Centralia, which had six players see at least 22 minutes of action.

Katie Whitten scored 13 on 5 of 11 shooting with three rebounds and three assists, and Alisha Sorenson and Tiana Thompson each added 12 points. Susan Kenney chipped in 11 points with seven rebounds.



The Blazers led 40-27 at halftime.

Black Hills product Taylor Sauls led SPS with 21 points, while twin sister Taylor added 11. River Ridge alum Savannah McGill added 14 points and 20 rebounds for the Clippers.

Centralia (13-6, 4-0 league) will host Lower Columbia (12-8, 4-0 league) on Saturday with a 5 p.m. tipoff.
