A slightly larger stage didn’t change much for Austen Apperson and Mollie Olson, who both won three solo events on Friday at the District 4 2B Track Championships at Chehalis’ Bearcat Stadium.

Apperson, Adna’s junior distance phenom, won three solo events and anchored a winning relay team, while Olson, Napavine’s senior star, picked up three wins and a runner-up.

Apperson won the 800 meters in 1 minute, 57 seconds; won the 1600 by 19 seconds in 4:20; and won the 3200 by edging Northwest Christian’s Noah Phillips, 10:24.30 to 10:24.42. He also teamed up with Zander Blankenship, Brady Collins and Aisan Ryan to win the 4x400 in 3:34.31.

Olson won the 100 hurdles in 15.75 seconds and took second in the 300 hurdles, finishing less than a half-second behind Life Christian’s Landyn Lovelady. She also won the long jump (16 feet, 5 inches) by nearly a foot and took the triple jump at 35-02.

The top six placers in each event qualified for the State 2B championships, which start Thursday in Cheney.
