Pirates Drop Cards on Senior Night

ADNA — It was all Adna as the Pirates celebrated senior night with a 56-30 win over Winlock here in Central 2B League girls basketball play on Tuesday.

Devanie Kleemeyer led the Pirates with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Kenya Lorton added 12 and Shanay Dotson chipped in 9 points and eight boards for Adna.

The Pirate pressure on the defensive end gradually began to frustrate the Cardinals while the Pirates piled on the points in the first half.

"We actually came out in the first quarter and really pressured them," Adna coach Chris Bannish said. "We really got after it in the second quarter. Lili (Glover) was a big spark for us in that period."

Glover indeed provided the lift the Pirates needed off the bench, scoring all 8 of her points in the second quarter.

Mika Hammond shouldered what was almost the entirety of the offensive load for Winlock with 22 points.

"It was nice to get a lot of our girls some playing time tonight," Bannish said. "We need some fresh legs for the near future."

Bannish also praised Josey Sandrini for her defensive effort as a reserve.

Sandrini, Dotson and Samantha Rolfe were all honored for senior night.

Adna (12-5 league, 13-6 overall) will travel to Toledo on Thursday for their final game of the regular season. Winlock (3-14, 4-15) will host Napavine on the same night.

Woodley, Ducks Too Much for MWP

RANDLE — Sam Woodley caught fire and the Timberwolves were unable to cool her down.

Woodley scored 32 points and grabbed 10 rebounds here Tuesday night in Toutle Lake’s 65-32 C2BL girls hoops win over Morton-White Pass.

The two-time C2BL MVP went 8 of 14 from behind the 3-point arc, while the Ducks were 9 of 20 from long range as a team.

“She just had one of those nights,” MWP coach Tom Griffith said. “We didn’t have an answer for her. She just shot the 3-ball really well, and if you go out and get too close to her she just puts it on the floor and goes right by you.”

Makala Gardner added 15 points for Toutle Lake (17-1 league), while Haley Kolb led MWP with 16 points on 7 of 11 shooting with five rebounds.

Morton-White Pass (10-9, 8-9 league) hosts Pe Ell in Morton for senior night on Thursday.

Mules Outmatch Indians, 63-33

CATHLAMET — The Indians keyed in on star player Peyton Souvenir, gambling on the rest of the team making shots. The rest of the Wahkiakum squad made their opportunities count, downing Toledo 63-33 here in Central 2B League girls hoops action on Tuesday.

"They shot really well and had good balance offensively," Toledo coach J.B. Ewers said. "We focused a lot of our defense on Souvenir, but she was able to dish it out and other kids knocked down shots for them."

Macie Elliott was at the head of the effort on the offensive end, scoring a game-high 15 points for the Mules. Souvenir still ended up with 12 points despite the extra defensive pressure.

While the Wahkiakum offense clicked, the Indians couldn't find their touch from the field, breaking double-figure scoring in only the first quarter. Toledo faced a 30-19 deficit at halftime, but the Mules only kept pounding from there.

"We were thinking they would cool off maybe after halftime," Ewers said. "But that didn't happen for us while we struggled from the field. I thought we played well, but we didn't shoot well and they did."

Josie Bowen led the Indians with 8 points.

Toledo (8-9 league, 9-10 overall) will host Adna on Thursday for the final matchup of the regular season.
