2B Girls: Grose’s 20 Points Lifts Mossyrock Over Pe Ell

PE ELL — Mossyrock’s Lainee Grose notched 20 points and hit five 3-pointers as the Vikings surged in the fourth quarter to pick up a 47-36 Central 2B League victory over Pe Ell here on Thursday.

Mossyrock outscored the Trojans 16-8 in the final stanza to pick up their first league victory of the season.

“We had a lot of opportunities and missed opportunities during the course of the game,” Pe Ell coach Chris Phelps said. “They gained momentum in the fourth on our miscues.”

The game was close the entire way with Mossyrock leading 24-21 at halftime. Again it was a battle until Grose hit consecutive 3-pointers with four minutes to go that put Mossyrock in the driver’s seat.

“It got to a point where we had too much of a deficit to make up,” Phelps said. “We had to extend our defense and they were able to capitalize on that.”

Dakota Brooks led Pe Ell with 14 points and nine rebounds while Railey Smith added 10 points and Savannah Skeen grabbed eight rebounds.

“Dakota and Railey did a good job distributing the basketball and also taking advantage of opportunities,” Phelps said.

Clementine Schultz added 13 points to the Vikings’ efforts.

Pe Ell (1-16, 1-14 league) hosts Toledo on Saturday while Mossyrock (2-14, 1-14) plays at Winlock on Saturday.

Note: Pe Ell’s Alli Justice and Mossyrock’s Paige Moorcroft won the sportsmanship awards for the game.

Tigers Blow Out Wahkiakum, 66-33

CATHLAMET — Napavine had four players score in double figures and led 18-4 after a quarter, but its best work here Thursday in a 66-33 dismantling of Wahkiakum may have come on the defensive end.

The Tigers’ Grace Hamre and Melissa Lee held point guard Peyton Souvenir — who had averaged 27 points a game during the Mules’ last four games, all wins — to 2 points for a key Central 2B League victory.

“It was a great effort by those two,” Napavine coach Jeremy Landram said, “but our other girls, with the help side, helping out on the penetration and not giving her any angles, they did a great job on that.”

Lee, meanwhile, led the Tigers with 20 points, while Rylee White added 16. Hamre tallied 15, and Mollie Olson added 10 for Napavine.

The Mules managed 15 points in the second quarter, but Napavine scored 23 in the third to put the game on ice.

Maddy Mace led Wahkiakum — which beat Napavine for last year’s District 4 championship — with 10 points.

Napavine (15-2, 14-1 league) will face Morton-White Pass in Morton on Saturday in the early game of a boys-girls doubleheader. The Tigers wrap up the regular season with games against Mossyrock and Winlock next week.

Ducks Blow Past Ony

ONALASKA — Sam Woodley scored 22 points and Toutle Lake put away Onalaska, 66-29, here Thursday in C2BL girls hoops action.

The Ducks led 18-5 after a quarter, and held Onalaska to 12 points in the second half.

“Toutle Lake is a great basketball team,” Logger coach Dracy McCoy said, “and we did not play well tonight.”



Nicolle Duryea led Onalaska with 10 points, and Colee Masciola added 8.

Ronnie Kinsman, who suffered a knee injury in the Loggers’ second game of the season, played her first significant minutes since the injury, McCoy added.

“She’s looking good,” McCoy said of Kinsman, who had three rebounds and a blocked shot. “She played a good all-around game.”

Makala Gardner added 15 points for Toutle Lake.

Onalaska (7-10, 6-9 league) will play at Wahkiakum on Saturday.

Toledo Doubles Up Cards

WINLOCK — Toledo’s defense went to work over the final three quarters and procured a 49-24 C2BL girls basketball win over rival Winlock here Thursday night.

Anna Tauscher scored 16, while Haley Tauscher added 14 for Toledo.

Winlock, meanwhile, shot 8 of 45 (18 percent) from the field.

The game was tied at 10-10 after a quarter.

“We took a lot of poor shots, turned the ball over, didn’t rebound well, and they hit a bunch of shots,” Winlock coach Scott Ashmore said, of the difference over the final three frames.

Mika Hammond led Winlock with 10 points.

Winlock (4-13, 3-12 league) hosts Mossyrock on Saturday, in the early game of a boys-girls doubleheader. Toledo (8-9, 7-8 league) plays at Pe Ell on Saturday.

Adna Routs MWP, 68-37

ADNA — The Pirates focused on defense in practice on Wednesday, and put the work to good use here in a 68-37 win over Morton-White Pass in C2BL girls action on Thursday.

Adna got 16 points from Devanie Kleemeyer and 15 from Kenya Lorton, and scored 27 points in the second quarter to lead 35-14 at halftime.

Kleemeyer and Lorton scored 8 and 10, respectively, in the pivotal second quarter.

“We got back to what we’ve been good at the last couple years, and that’s been our defense,” Adna coach Chris Bannish said. “Our (defensive) rotations have been a step slow the last week or so, and we were able to get our rotations right in place.”

Haley Kolb led MWP with 13 points, and Sharon Hazen added 11.

Lili Glover, Darian Humphrey, Isabella Elwood and Jenikka Poppe all played well off the bench, Bannish added, and Shanay Dotson — battling an illness all season — added 12 points and eight rebounds.

Adna (12-5, 11-4 league) plays at Toutle Lake on Saturday in the early game of a boys-girls doubleheader on Saturday. Morton-White Pass (10-7, 8-7 league) hosts Napavine in Morton on Saturday, also in the early game of a twinbill.
