2B Football: Toledo Wakes Up in Second Half to Best Loggers

Posted

ONALASKA — The Loggers jumped out early, but Toledo ran away late in a 40-20 Central 2B League football victory here Friday night.

Dalton Yoder, Dylan Hoiseck and Taylor Hicks each scored a pair of rushing touchdowns for Toledo, which trailed 20-7 at halftime.

“Our kids just actually started playing better,” Toledo coach Jeremy Thibault said. “We were on the ropes a little bit, and they threw a little punch, and we were able to stun them a little bit.”

Onalaska got a pair of touchdowns from Stone Whitney — on 8- and 6-yard runs — and a 33-yard touchdown pass from Hunter Blair to Evan Wrzesinski to take a big halftime lead.

“Our kids played well in the first half. We talked about, ‘We’ve got to make some adjustments,’” Logger coach Mazen Saade said. “And the tale of the second half is that we didn’t execute. All the credit in the world, in the second half, goes to Toledo.”

Hicks and Yoder both scored in the third quarter. Yoder added a 20-yard score on the ground to open the fourth quarter and give the Indians a 27-20 lead, and Dylan Hoiseck — who finished with 203 rushing yards on 14 carries — ran in the Indians’ final two scores, from 65 and 27 yards out.

Whitney led the Loggers with 41 carries for 156 yards. Yoder finished with five carries for 28 yards and completed four passes for 102 yards, and Hicks ran 15 times for 58 yards.

“They outplayed us physically up front. They were better tacklers than us and better blockers than us,” Saade said. “And the bottom line is their coaches outcoached us the second half, so we’ve got some things we’ve got to work on as a program.”

Onalaska (2-3) will play at Wahkiakum on Friday. Toledo (4-1) will host Napavine (4-1) on Friday in the first of three straight home games.

Ducks Sink Cards

TOUTLE — Toutle Lake got started early and put Winlock on its heels to come away with a 42-6 C2BL victory here on Friday night. The Ducks led 21-0 at halftime and added two more scores in the third quarter for the victory.

“We came out a little flat,” Winlock coach Ben Suhrbier said. “We didn’t come out with energy and we got out-physicalled by them up front.”

Toutle Lake finished with 257 yards on the ground, while Winlock had 101 — led by Jason Chilcoate’s 98 yards on 14 carries. He had the team’s lone score in the fourth quarter with a 55-yard rushing touchdown.

Executing blocks and some fumbled exchanges were among the issues for the Cardinals.

“We just got to kind of reboot and head into the game next week,” Suhrbier said. “I have confidence in these kids, though. They have great work ethic and will bounce back. We’ve got to give it to Toutle, they came out playing hard.”

Winlock (1-4) will host Adna on Friday.

Elledge Scores Three Touchdowns As Timberwolves Roll Wahkiakum

CATHLAMET — Morton-White Pass won its second-straight game with a 40-6 victory over Wahkiakum here on Friday, behind another strong performance by running back Braiden Elledge.

Elledge rushed for 234 yards on 18 carries with three touchdowns as the Timberwolves turned a 16-0 halftime lead into their third victory in four games.

“It’s one of those games where any time you can go down to Cathlamet and pull out a victory, you’re feeling good,” Morton-White Pass coach Aaron Poquette said. “The kids are figuring out the system offensively and once we got moving we were okay.”

Quarterback Kaleb Rashoff threw a 48-yard touchdown pass to Rocco Bertucci to get the East County boys on the board. Elledge’s first rushing touchdown, from 31 yards out, rounded out the first-half scoring.

Rashoff struck again in the third quarter on a 37-yard pass to Matt Poquette. Wahkiakum answered back with a Joey Moore 81-yard kickoff return, but the Timberwolves held strong and Elledge ripped off two big touchdown runs to ice the game.

“Our goal is to get into the state bracket and we’re going to have to get a couple more wins to do that, but it's good to get consecutive wins,” Poquette said. “At the same time, we’ve got a lot of work to do and we just have to keep moving forward.”

Elledge and Poquette also played well defensively, the coach said, while Cameron Hart hauled in an interception.

Morton-White Pass (3-2) will host Mossyrock in Randle on Friday.

Titans Dominate, Blank Vikings

MOSSYROCK — Pe Ell-Willapa Valley was itching to get back on the field after a forfeit prevented the Titans from seeing action last week. They came ready to play and then some, defeating Mossyrock 47-0 here in Central 2B League football play on Friday.

Trevor Cook led the Titan offense with big numbers in just a few plays. Seven carries was all Cook required to score on three occasions, running for 115 yards. Kaelin Jurek rushed for 81 yards and the opening touchdown on nine carries, while Seth Flemetis also ran for 81 yards on eight carries for PWV.

The Titan defense was just as dominant, causing three fumbles, two interceptions, and holding the Vikings to just 75 total yards. Matt Minton recorded 11 tackles and Dustin Lusk had seven tackles, six being solos, for PWV.

"We ran into a buzzsaw there," Mossyrock coach Jason Cole said. "They're obviously pretty good and live up to their rating. Our kids don't quit, and played hard in the second half and moved the ball a little bit."

Bright spots for the Vikings were eight tackles from David Mendoza and 87 rushing yards on 17 carries from James Cheney.

"We don't have any quitters out here," Cole said. "These guys are going to continue to play hard. It's a process to rebuild a program."

Mossyrock (1-4) will play Morton-White Pass in Randle on Friday, while Pe Ell-Willapa Valley (5-0) will host Toutle Lake in Pe Ell.
