2A Softball: Freshmen Come Up Big for Centralia

Posted

Centralia’s youngsters carried the load in the Tigers’ 11-0 win over Olympic in nonleague softball play at Fort Borst Park Thursday afternoon.

Three Hub City freshman accounted for 6 of the Tigers’ 10 hits on the day, as Centralia used a seven-run fourth inning to cruise to the five-inning win.

Freshman Erika Brower pitched four innings for Centralia and gave up three hits and two walks with nine strikeouts in her high school debut.

She helped her own cause by going 3 for 3 from the plate with a three-run home run to left-center field in the fourth inning.

“It was an all-around good day for her,” said Centralia coach Ken Olson. “I was real pleased with how she did. It was a good start to a high school career.”

Parker Pocklington, another freshman, finished the day 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs hitting in the No. 2 spot in the line up.

Freshman Abby Slorey chipped in with a pinch hit in the fourth inning that drove in a run.

“The freshman were very productive for us today,” said Olson. “I’m tickled to death how the freshman played today.”

It wasn’t just the youngsters making all the noise, as junior Jenny Milton went 3 for 3 with two stolen bases.

Centralia (1-0) will host Eastlake, winners of the 2008 State 4A softball title, at Fort Borst Park on Saturday.
