SEATTLE — The top doubles teams from W.F. West and Centralia are both still alive

after Day 1 of the State 2A Girls Tennis Championships, as is W.F. West’s Daniel Blomdahl in the 2A boys singles tournament.

Centralia’s Jaycee Foster and Hayden Blaser, and W.F. West’s Kyla Richards and Isabel VanderStoep, will both continue action today here at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.

Foster and Blaser beat Pullman’s Alexa Yamada and Lizzie George, 6-4, 6-3, in the first round, and then lost Sehome’s Taylor Harris and Simone Hall in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 6-1.

“There were some unforced errors that were costly against an experienced team like Sehome,” Centralia coach Deb Keahey said. “Our girls are determined. They'll come back tomorrow morning focused and ready to give it their all.”

Foster and Blaser will face Sarah Hamal and Chelsea Rosebrook, of Kingston, in a loser-out match this morning, with the winner playing for fourth place later today.

Richards and VanderStoep, lost to Squalicum sisters Kim and Rachel Dorr in a tight 7-6, 0-6, 6-2 match in the first round, but beat Ephrata’s Teighan Moore and Demi Brekhus, 6-4, 6-2, in a loser-out consolation match.

Richards and VanderStoep will play again today, against Sarah Holt and Megan Cragg of North Kitsap. The winner will move on to the tournament’s fifth/eighth place match.

In 2A boys action, W.F. West’s Blomdahl lost his first-round match, 6-2, 6-0, to Sammamish’s Ethan Romney, but rallied to beat Clarkston’s Don Arsenev, 6-3, 6-2 in a loser-out consolation round.

Blomdahl, a senior, will take on East Valley’s Michael Manion this morning in another loser-out contest. The winner will move on to play in the fifth/eighth place match.
