Rochester Falls to Elma 3-1

ELMA — The Eagles struck early, putting Rochester on its heels and unable to recover in a 3-1 Evergreen 2A/1A League boys soccer loss here on Friday.

Reyven Aparicio notched Rochester’s lone goal just before halftime, but a quick goal by the Eagles after the break meant it was going to be an uphill battle.

“They pretty much outplayed us,” Rochester coach Brian Ziese said. “I think we came in a little overconfident and just couldn’t get anything going.”

Rochester had defeated Elma at home, 3-1 on April 3. This time around, however, the Warriors were outshot 9-4 and gave up goals in the 13th and 18th minute.

Aparicio gave Rochester some hope with a 40-yard hail mary shot that got past the keeper just before halftime. The Eagles, however, scored less than a minute into the second half and Rochester couldn’t recover.

‘We were playing more catchup and trying to do more attacking but couldn’t get it going,” Ziese said.

Rochester (8-6, 8-4 league) hosts league rival Tenino on Tuesday.
