ROCHESTER — It took an overtime goal, but the Warriors found a way to finish off Toledo-Winlock 2-1 in SWW 1A League Evergreen Division soccer action here on Thursday.

A Scott Brown throw-in found the head of Ukrainian foreign exchange student Anton Bagler in the 98th minute, who headed it past the keeper and into the corner of the net, breaking the tie and handing Rochester its second win of the young season.

Toledo-Winlock got on the scoreboard first, in the 37 minute off a throw-in/header combination.

Rochester tied the game up in the 75th minute with a Ricky Zamudio free kick from just outside the penalty box.

“It was a bad angle but a great shot,” said Rochester coach Brian Ziese. “I just had a gut feeling that he would make a good shot and he tied it up for us.”

The Warriors finished the game with 22 shots on goal, while Toledo-Winlock notched 18 and Ziese attributed the win to superior conditioning.

“I think our conditioning paid off in the end for us, especially our midfielders,” said Ziese.

Israel Garcia made 18 saves for the Warriors.

“We played a good game,” Toledo-Winlock coach Hugo Molina said. “We had a few mistakes in the back, in the goal, but I think we played a lot better than we did against Tenino.”

Toledo-Winlock (1-1) plays Tuesday, at Winlock, against Montesano.

Rochester (2-0, 1-0 league) travels to Montesano on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game against the Bulldogs.

Fabian Moser nailed a shot from the top of the penalty box straight into the top right netting in the 13th minute for the lone goal of the game, helping the Beavers to a 1-0 1A Evergreen win over Montesano here Thursday.

“It was a good win for us,” said Tenino coach John Theoselis. “We are 1-1 now and I’m excited to keep moving forward.”
