1A Soccer: Forks Prevails 2-1 Over Warriors

Posted

ROCHESTER — The Warriors couldn’t finish and Forks got a little luck in its 2-1 SWW 1A League Evergreen Division victory here Tuesday.

The Warriors opened the game with heavy pressure on the Forks defense for the first 10 minutes, said Rochester coach Brian Zeise, but they were unable to find the back of the net.

“We missed three shots within 18 yards in the first 10 minutes,” said Zeise.

The Spartans opened the scoring in the 14th minute when a throw-in deflected off a Forks player’s foot and past the Rochester keeper to give Forks an early 1-0 advantage.

“It was just one of those freak plays,” said Ziese. “It was just unlucky.”

Forks scored again in the 46th minute, but    Carlos Flores put Rochester on the board in the 79th with a free kick.

Ziese noted that his midfielders played very well, especially freshman Jonathan Castillo.

Rochester will travel to Tenino on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Bulldogs Score Win Over United

WINLOCK — After Jessie Holbrook tied things up in the 67th minute — essentially sending the game into overtime — Toledo-Winlock and Montesano played all the way into the 102nd minute, where the Bulldogs capped off the win with goal.

“We lost, but I felt we played a good game in the second half especially,” Toledo-Winlock United coach Hugo Molina said. “We just couldn’t buy a goal to save our life in the end.”

Molina commended the play of freshman Marco Bautista.

“He had an awesome game,” he said. “He moved the ball around in the middle and just wreaked havoc.”

Montesano scored in the 31st minute, holding a 1-0 lead for 36 minutes more.

“We had a lot of missed opportunities,” Molina said, “but overall I think we played a good game.”

    Toledo-Winlock (1-2) plays at Forks Thursday at 6 p.m.
