2B Softball: Pirates Thump Timberwolves, 14-0

ADNA — The Pirates rolled up 19 wins in the regular season and continued to work with that momentum in the first round of the District 4 2B Softball Tournament here on Monday, no-hitting and 10-running Morton-White Pass 14-0.

“With this league, you can’t look past anyone in districts, especially a program like Morton-White Pass,” Adna coach Mike Raschke said. “When it comes down to the postseason everyone is zero-zero.”

That zero-zero didn’t last long as the Pirates scored 2 runs in the first inning and 5 more in the second frame. In the circle, Samantha Rolfe and Jenikka Poppe kept Morton-White Pass from picking up a base hit, while Shanay Dotson helped lead the team defensively and went 4 for 4 at the plate with 4 RBIs.

“I’m happy with the girls and the way Sam and Jenikka pitched,” Raschke said. “We got the timely hits and just had good pitching, good hitting and good defense. That’s nice getting all that the first game of districts.”

Kendra Stajduhar was 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs for Adna, while her teammate Aubri Jimenez was 2 for 2 with a double.

Raschke added he liked the support the team got from the community despite the early 3 p.m. start time.

“We like coming out like this and playing this well right off the bat,” Raschke said. “If you struggle a little in the first round, sometimes it takes a little momentum out.”

Adna (20-3) plays Onalaska in the second round of the District 4 tournament Wednesday at Centralia’s Fort Borst Park.

Tigers Clip Cardinals in Three

NAPAVINE — Two and a half innings was all it took for the Napavine Tigers to make short work of the Winlock Cardinals with an 18-0 win in the second round of the 2B District 4 Softball Tournament here on Monday.

Madi Thompson went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs along with Devanie Kleemeyer's 2 for 3 performance. Chelsea Oster's lone hit resulted in her first career homer, in the first inning.

The Tigers corralled 10 hits in the short duration of the ballgame.

"All the girls hit the ball, one through nine," Napavine coach Kadie Muller said. "We jumped on them quick and then we capitalized on our momentum. Abbi (Music) pitched really well for us, too."

Music went all three innings for Napavine, no-hitting the Cardinals while walking one with nine strikeouts.

Napavine (17-3) moves on to the semifinals to face Toutle Lake (19-2) on Wednesday at Fort Borst Park in Centralia.

Winlock (2-17) moves into the consolation bracket with a loser-out matchup against Toledo in Centralia on Wednesday.

Note: Napavine received a bye in the first round of district play. Winlock defeated Ocosta, 18-8, to advance to the second round.

Loggers Win Twice to Make Semifinals

OCEAN SHORES — Onalaska got a late start in its District 4 opener, but made the most of trip to the beach here Monday with a 7-2 win over Toledo and a 14-3 win over Pacific 2B League champion North Beach.

The wins put Onalaska — the No. 4 team out of the Central 2B League — into the semifinals of the District 4 2B Softball Tournament against Adna.

The Loggers opened district play against Toledo, with a 7-2 win that started nearly 90 minutes late after the Indians’ bus broke down in Oakville.

Onalaska, however, scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first inning and cruised to the win. Nicolle Duryea and Alicia Vint each went 2 for 4, while McKenna Ulery was 1 for 3 and drove in 2 runs.

Amya Thomasson went 3 for 4 and scored 2 runs for Toledo.

That put Onalaska in a quarterfinal match against the host Hyaks, who were limited to three hits by Logger pitcher Gabby Wright — who also tossed a complete game against Toledo — in the 14-3, five-inning win.

“I thought she stayed within herself, and we rode her both games today,” Onalaska coach Ken Ulery said. “All in all, I thought she did exactly what we asked.”

Vint and Duryea each went 2 for 3 against North Beach, while Vint knocked in a pair of runs. Kasey Hoyt and Ulery were each 2 for 4, and Ulery drove in 4 runs.

Onalaska (14-7) will now face Adna (20-3) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Fort Borst Park.

“We have to play a perfect game, I think, to beat Adna, and I think we’re capable of doing it,” Ulery said. “Anything can happen. I like where the girls are at, and I think we’re playing pretty good and we’ve got a good shot.”

Note: North Beach (16-3) will take on Ocosta in a loser-out game at Fort Borst Park on Wednesday at 2 p.m. … Toledo (3-16) will face rival Winlock in a loser-out game, also at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fort Borst Park.

Titans Split Day 1 of Districts

TOUTLE — The Pe Ell-Willapa Valley Titans opened up the first round of the District 4 2B Softball Tournament with a win and a loss, defeating Wahkiakum 3-2 in the first round and falling to Toutle Lake 6-2 in the nightcap here on Monday.

Savannah Skeen got things started in the fourth inning of the matchup with Wahkiakum with an RBI single for the Titans. Skeen went 2 for 3 to lead a Titan offense that only mustered six hits.

The Mules quickly answered back in the following frame by means of a 2-run homer from Sam Boyce. PWV continued to chip away, tacking on a run via an RBI double from Sam Woodward in the fifth and an RBI bunt single from Abby Hodel in the sixth inning to edge the Mules.

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley coach Ken Olson cited Wahkiakum pitcher Tori Wegdahl as an impeding force to his squad's offense.

"The Wegdahl girl really had a great game and we just didn't hit well against her," Olson said. "They had us on the ropes and we had to manufacture some short game to beat them. They were a totally different team than we played before, but the kids came through."

Hitting woes continued and luck didn't hold out for the Titans in Game 2 against the two-time defending state champion Ducks. Toutle Lake outhit PWV, 8-4, in a game where the Titans couldn't mount much offense outside of the first stanza.

Dakota Brooks went 2 for 3 and hit an RBI double, leaving Lacey Joner responsible for the other Titan RBI in the first inning. The Ducks answered back and then some, holding the Titans at bay via pitcher Rae Curry.

"Curry is a solid thrower and we just didn't swing the bats really well," Olson said. "Toutle Lake are back-to-back state champions and that showed. We played well, we just couldn't hit, but I really liked the fact that we battled hard today and our energy level was up."

The Titans will continue district play in the consolation bracket, playing at Fort Borst Park for a slated 2 p.m. first pitch against Ilwaco on Wednesday in a loser-out game.
