ADNA — The Trojans held Adna to just 8 first-half points as they rolled past the Pirates 53-35 here Thursday night in Central 2B League girls hoops action.

Both teams ran full-court presses, but Pe Ell’s caused a number of Pirate turnovers in the first half and helped the Trojans to a 23-8 halftime lead.

Pe Ell (11-7, 5-5) then went on to outscore the Pirates 30-27 in the second half to earn its fifth league victory of the season.

“We handled things a little better in the second half and we put together a good run in the fourth quarter, but it was too late,” said Adna coach Jeff Beasley. “When you dig that deep of a hole for yourselves it’s hard to climb out of.”

Adna (6-10, 2-6 league) had a late push in the fourth quarter and outscored Pe Ell 16-15, but it wasn’t enough.

Bethany Elliott led the Pirates with 8 points and Jordan Zurfluh added 7 while pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds.
