ROCHESTER — The Warriors sent their two seniors out with a bang here Tuesday night, putting away defending State 1A champion Elma 9-3 in Evergreen 2A/1A League softball action.

Jessica Girardin, in her first appearance in five weeks after suffering a broken rib, went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles to lead Rochester at the plate. Freshman Hunter Hahn was 3 for 4, while Joni Lancaster went 2 for 4 and drove in 2 runs.

Jaelin Lancaster started in the circle and worked all seven innings, giving up six hits, including a homer to Elma’s Kaylee Rambo.

“Other than that, she was hitting her corners and kept most of their hitters to not many hits,” Rochester coach Jared Lancaster pointed out.

Joni Lancaster and Sierra Seymour, Lancaster added, were impressive defensively in the middle of the infield.

“They both dominate and cover a ton of ground,” the coach said. “I was super happy with our pitching and defense.”

Rochester (14-3 overall) will wrap up league play at Elma on Thursday, and has already qualified for a pigtail game with the No. 4 team out of the Evergreen 2A Conference for a spot in the District 4 2A Softball Tournament.

Note: It was the final home game for Warrior seniors Seymour and Jessica Glacken.
