Girls BB: Schinnell Leads Huskies Over Terriers

Posted

MORTON — Annie Schinnell scored 20 points in the first half and the Morton girls rolled to a 48-31 Columbia Valley League win over Washington State School for the Deaf here Monday night.

“I was really happy with how the game went tonight,” Morton coach Lauren Kanyer said. “It felt like we’ve really been in a slump the last two or three games.”

Schinnell played what Kanyer said was “one of her best offensive games,” hitting 12 of 22 shots from the floor with three 3-pointers and 10 rebounds.

“We ran our zone offense pretty well,” Kanyer said. “It was a great team win.”

Schinnell finished with a game-high 27 points, and Stefana Bertucci grabbed 20 rebounds for the Huskies.

“I just can’t say enough about how hard she worked,” Kanyer said of Bertucci, who had eight offensive boards.

Victoria Ford, Kanyer added, played a good game at forward.

“It was a great team win,” Kanyer said. “I’m just happy that we’re moving forward again in our game.”

Olivia Mackey led State Deaf with 13 points.

The Huskies (12-4, 6-0 league) play at King’s Way Christian on Thursday.

Note: In order to reach the playoffs, the Huskies will need to win the Columbia Valley League title, which they can do by beating Columbia Adventist and Vancouver Christian on Feb. 2 and 9, respectively. A league championship puts Morton in a play-in game against the last-place team from the Central 2B League, with a spot in the District IV 2B Girls Basketball Tournament on the line.
