2B Boys: Adna Takes Top C2BL Spot

    PE ELL — A standing room-only crowd here Friday night got a good show, but visiting Adna took home the top spot in the Central 2B League with a 57-46 win over the Trojans here Friday night in boys hoops action.

    Kyle Grosshans scored 29 points to lead the Pirates, who improved to 7-2 in C2BL play (14-3 overall) with the win.

    “Grosshans killed us,” Trojan coach Clayburn Lusk said. “He just got to the hole. He drove baseline on us, and got lay-ups.”

    The Adna forward shot 11 of 12 from the field, helping his team to a 20 of 42 (48 percent) night from the floor.

    “Offensively, we didn’t play very well,” Lusk said. “Adna did a good job against us defensively. We’d get good ball movement at times, and we‘d go away from what was getting open looks.”

    Hank Robinson led the Trojans with 12 points, and Joey Vetter scored 8 and grabbed eight rebounds.

    Lusk praised the play of Vetter and Dylan Toepelt, who had 6 points and seven boards, and Tanner Lusk (6 points, five boards).

    “(The loss) gives Adna a big advantage,” Lusk said. “They’ve got two wins against us. We’ve just got to take care of business in our last couple games, and see what happens.”

    Pe Ell (15-3, 7-3 league) hosts Napavine, while Adna hosts Toutle Lake, on Wednesday.

    Notes: Pe Ell’s Lerry Tolliver missed the game with a sprained ankle. ... Nate Trotter and Coulsen Kohler each scored 9 for Adna.

Host Viks Edge Napavine

    MOSSYROCK — One cold quarter — a third period where Mossyrock scored just 3 — nearly sunk the host team here Friday night against Napavine, after the hosts had established a 39-29 lead at halftime.

    But the Viks had just enough punch in the final period to top the visiting Tigers 56-53 in C2BL boys basketball action.

    “We started off and had a good first half, shot a high percentage, were getting some good shots,” Viking coach Chad Mitchell said. “In the third quarter they picked up the defense a bit and we only had 3 points. It was just one of those quarters where nothing would fall.

    “Luckily in the fourth quarter we got some shots and held them off in the end.”

    Jordan Bowman had 15 points, and Jonah Bradley had 10 to lead Mossyrock. Riley Alvord had 8 points and as many assists.

    Colton and Trevor Brown led Napavine (11-7, 6-4 league) with 15 and 14 points, respectively.

    “It was a great game,” Mitchell said. “Everybody on both teams worked hard. It was fun to watch.”

    Mossyrock (6-10, 2-7 league) hosts Wahkiakum Wednesday.



Mules Rally to Beat Panthers

    CATHLAMET — After holding Wahkiakum to a 6-point second quarter, White Pass allowed the Mules to explode with 42 second-half points to win 64-57 here Friday night in C2BL boys basketball action.

    Cody Olsen scored 27 to guide the Mules to victory.

    “We actually played a pretty good game overall tonight,” Panther coach Tony Gillispie said. “We got down 16-3 in the first quarter and battled back and took the lead at halftime.

    “We played man defense most of the night and did a good job,” he added. “But in the second half it kind of got away from us. We were down 2 a couple times in the fourth with chances to tie it.”

    Cameron Sume and Matt Green led the Panthers with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Green also had nine rebounds, and Kyle Kelly had six assists.

    The Panthers had just 16 turnovers in the ballgame, which impressed Gillispi.

    “We’re getting down towards the end of the season we’re starting to improve in that area,” he said.

    Gillispie also commended his team for attempting a season-high 69 shots.

    “We haven’t shot that many all year,” Gillispie said. “We hit the boards really hard tonight. We didn’t get a win, but we’re improving.”

    White Pass (4-13, 2-8 league) hosts Mossyrock Friday.

Owls Self-Destruct Against Acorns

    OAKVILLE — Tucker Reinitz scored 24 to lead the host Acorns past Mary M. Knight, 74-45, here Friday night in Pacific Coast 1B League boys basketball action.

    Rikki Sudderlict and Bobby Jones scored 11 and 10, respectively, in the winning effort.

    “It was just another good league win for us,” Acorn coach Steve Reinitz said. “The kids all came in ready to play. Everybody got to play on our roster, and everybody scored. We got some good minutes from our substitutes.”

    Kevin Cook scored 27 for the Owls, who didn’t have another player hit double figures.

    Oakville (8-4, 6-1 league) hosts Taholah tonight, in a battle of the No. 1 and 2 teams in the Pacific Coast League.
