VANCOUVER — The Bearcats’ momentum from Thursday’s win carried over to Friday, when W.F. West hit the road and came back with a 17-1, six-inning nonleague win over 3A Fort Vancouver.

W.F. West knocked 10 hits in the win and got efficient pitching out of Brody Holcomb and Garrett Yarter. Holcomb started and struck out seven with three walks over the first five innings, with Yarter finishing things off with a scoreless sixth. The duo combined to allow just three hits.

“They both threw really well,” W.F. West coach Bryan Bullock said. “They did a nice job of attacking the strike zone.”

On the offensive end, meanwhile, W.F. West led 8-1 going into the sixth frame, and then exploded for 9 runs. Michael Rose and Elijah Johnson highlighted the final inning, with 2-run singles mixed in with a few of the Trappers’ nine errors and a handful of walks.

Rose and Hayden Dobyns each finished with two hits.

“It’s always nice to string a couple wins together to end the week, so hopefully this’ll give us some momentum heading back into league next week,” Bullock said.

W.F. West (7-8) is slated to play at Black Hills on Tuesday and at home with Black Hills on Wednesday.
