2A Girls: Bearcats Smoke Panthers in Pigtail

W.F. West won it’s fourth straight game Tuesday night, taking down Washougal 57-33 in a pigtail game to earn a spot in the District IV 2A Girls Basketball Tournament.

The win means the Bearcats (12-10) head north Friday night to take on River Ridge, the state’s top-ranked team and a squad that suffered its lone loss of the season to W.F. West last Tuesday.

Tuesday, in their third game in five nights, the Bearcats got 15 points from Ryan Tahl on five 3-pointers — the same line Tahl posted in Monday night’s tiebreaker win at Aberdeen — and shot 23 of 45 from the floor (51 percent).

“It was nice to see us score over 50 again,” Weeks said. “The girls, once again, were pretty patient with their offense. Washougal double-teamed our posts, and the girls were pretty good about getting it to the open player.”

Caitlin Linehan added 8 points for W.F. West, and Uriah Thomas scored 7 with six rebounds. The Bearcats led 30-20 at halftime and held the Panthers to just 4 third-quarter points to seal the win.

River Ridge now waits on Friday.

“They’re going to come out with a lot of energy,” Weeks said. “They’ve got the motivation to come out and put one on us.”

The Bearcats beat the Evergreen 2A Conference-champion Hawks 62-59.

“We’ve got to take care of the ball and push it when it’s there, but like we did the other night we’ve got to be smart and pull it out when it’s not there,” Weeks said. “If we can do that okay, we’ll be in the game.”
