Loggers Leave Twilight Zone With Victory

FORKS — The Spartans hung tough with Onalaska here Thursday — outscoring the Loggers 10-3 in the third period on their senior night — but couldn’t keep pace with the SWW 1A League Evergreen Division leaders in a 57-35 boys basketball loss.

“That third quarter was a disaster,” Logger coach Dennis Bower said. “Nothing would go right. And, although they scored 10 points, it seemed like they were scoring at ease. They had us on our heels.”

Cody Naillon was the only Logger to hit double figures with 18.

“I gotta give them credit,” Bower said. “They came out and led us after the first quarter 15-12.

“It was tough. It was senior night. There was a packed house,” he added. “I knew they would come out inspired — and they did.”

But following that first quarter, Onalaska went on an 18-4 run to build a double-digit lead. The Loggers sealed the win with a 21-9 fourth quarter.

“I feel good from the standpoint that we’re on the road and lost a little bit of momentum,” Bower said. “They came back. We had to make some plays.

“It doesn’t feel like we won by 22.”
