Prep Softball: Trojan Girls Take a Pair From Cardinals

Posted

WINLOCK — Pe Ell made plays late in the game for an early 4-2 victory over Winlock here Wednesday, and came up big at the plate for a 12-1 win in Game 2 to sweep the Cardinals in nonleague softball action.

The Cardinals led 2-1 through five innings, but a walk, an error and a triple by the Trojans’ Angelina Phelps put Pe Ell in front.

Amber Arrington added a hit for Pe Ell in the sixth inning, while Winlock’s Courtney Suter hit a triple in Game 1.

Cardinal coach Tracy Tingle praised the play of Suter and Sherelle Eichorst in the field during the first game.

The Trojans, though, picked up seven hits and scored nine runs in the first four innings to roll to a Game 2 win.

“They just hit the ball, and we didn’t,” Tingle said. “We had some errors, but they just hit the ball.”

Phelps had a single and a double in the second game to lead the Trojans at the plate.

Winlock (0-5) hosts Rochester today, while Pe Ell is at La Center on Tuesday.
