Prep Softball: Late Rally Allows Tigers Pull Away From Indians

    TOLEDO — Alexa Peters pitched a complete game and racked up three hits for Napavine in the Tigers’ 9-6 win over Toledo her Monday night.

    Napavine was down 3-2 after four innings, when it scored 7 runs over the fifth and sixth to pull away.

    Toledo coach Bill Waag attributed the Indians’ downfall to errors, as they had six.

    “We had four errors and they had four hits in the fifth inning,” he said, of the inning where his team allowed 3 runs. “In the sixth, we had one error, but they also had five hits.”

    Teryn Pannette had three hits as the Tigers’ leadoff batter, while Demi Sahlinger had an RBI-double

    Megan Herbert, Brittany Hope and Haley Hellem had two hits each for Toledo.

    The Indians countered the Tigers’ opening run with two of their own, before adding another in the third to build a more comfortable lead.

    Waag commended the play of Kaelyn Whipp, who had an RBI single in the sixth off a pinch hit.



    Toledo (0-5, 0-2 league) hosts Montesano tonight at 3 p.m., while Napavine hosts Adna Friday at 2 p.m.

Chinooks Shutout Beavers

    TENINO — The Beavers could score nary a run against the Chinooks as they fell 4-0 to Kalama here Monday afternoon in nonleague softball action.

    Kalama racked up four runs on eight hits and used a three-run fourth inning to cruise to the win.

    “It was a frustrating evening,” said Tenino coach Wanda Blanksma. “We just came out very flat.”

    The Beavers tallied four hits on the day with Lindsey Elder leading Tenino by going 2 for 2 with a double and a single, while Cassie Vance and Dani Wall each had triples.

    The Beavers (1-3, 1-2 league) will host Onalaska on Thursday at 3 p.m.
