Lopez Lifts Acorns over Eagles

Posted

OAKVILLE — Ray Lopez led the Acorns on the mound and from the plate while Oakville strung together hits for an 8-5 nonleague baseball victory over Evergreen Lutheran here on Friday.

Lopez struck out eight and walked four in five innings of work while going 3 for 3 from the plate with an RBI for his efforts. Trey Brown also went 3 for 3 while Alex Youckton's lone hit resulted in a triple that scored 2 for Oakville.

The Acorns' 8 runs were scored in the second and fourth innings.

"The kids played good and they hit the ball together when they should," Oakville coach Marvin Youckton said. "Getting 8 runs in two innings, they put it together."

The Eagles scored 4 runs in the top of the fourth before being answered by 5 Oakville runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Eagles could only manage 1 more run in three more innings of work.

"We hit the ball hard and, unfortunately, they sometimes find gloves," Youckton said. "Evergreen hit the ball pretty hard too, they just didn't put it together as well. We've played quite a few games in the last few days, and the kids have fought hard. They deserve the rest for the weekend."

Oakville (7-0 league, 14-0 overall) will travel to Naselle Wednesday.
