2A/1A Boys Soccer: Warriors Edge Eatonville with Work in First Half

EATONVILLE — The Eatonville defense continuously frazzled the Warriors, but Rochester still managed a 2-1 Evergreen 2A/1A League boys soccer victory here on Monday.

The Cruisers' defense was constantly moving up on the incoming offense, an efficient strategy, according to Rochester coach Brian Ziese, as the Warriors racked up nearly 20 offsides calls in the game.

"We didn't play a good game," Ziese said. "It was just one of those things where they would push up so fast and we just made mistakes where we couldn't put them away."

Amidst the chaos, Jesus Torres was able to score early on in the 10th minute for the Warriors, followed by teammate Kevin McLernan's score in the 33rd minute to go into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

Despite the clever defense, the Cruisers couldn't muster up one legitimate shot on goal. The lone score for Eatonville came on a penalty kick in the 45th minute from Jake Nidever. The Warriors were able to limit their mistakes and hold on for the win.

"I've never seen a team play that way and it kind of baffled us," Ziese said. "Luckily, we were able to come out with the win."

Rochester (2-1 league, 2-3 overall) will host Elma on Wednesday.
