TUMWATER — Centralia beat Black Hills, 61-49, here Thursday night in Evergreen 2A Conference boys basketball action.
It was, finally, a win in Washington for the Tigers (3-15, 1-9 league).
“The kids were very excited after the game,” Tiger coach Ron Brown said. “We’re just pleased with the kids. It was a super win for us at this stage.
“We got off to a good start,” said the coach, whose team outscored the Wolves 25-13 at the half. “They were cold. They did not have a good game. We just kind of built on it.”
Easton Masteller scored 24 points, including 10 of the team’s 13 first-quarter points. James Green scored 13, Dominick Courcy had 10, and Steven Hamilton got 8 points and 13 rebounds.
“Easton had a good first half,” Brown said. “He got us going.”
Brown also commended the play of Tyler Shumate (5 points).
“He played a good floor game for us,” he said.
The Tigers also managed to hold Black Hills’ high-scoring post, Anye Turner, to 3 points. Zeke Baxter led the Wolves with 20.
Centralia hosts league-leading River Ridge on Tuesday.
