LONGVIEW — Following a loss to a tough Tumwater squad, W.F. West received a lift in morale as the Bearcat netters defeated R.A. Long 5-1 in a nonleague matchup here on Friday.

The Bearcats swept the singles competition as Daniel Blomdahl, Andrew Painter and Ethan Tufts all defeated their respective opponents in just two sets apiece. Chehalis coach Jack State enjoyed what he saw from Painter, who won 7-5, 6-0.

"Andrew started out slow but he realized his opponents weakness with the backhand," State said. "He did a good job of seeing what to do."

State also noted that R.A. Long had three varsity players injured, leaving the Lumberjack roster disadvantaged with a youthful team including three freshmen, three sophomores and just one senior.

W.F. West's success carried over to the doubles series as the duo of Sean Touhey and Jeff Tereski, as well as Nate Birchird and E.J. Matagi, won their respective matches in two sets.

"Sean and Jeff went out and played aggressive," State said. "They made things happen. That's exactly what we need from them."

The Bearcats (2-2 overall, 1-1 league) will host Black Hills in an Evergreen 2A matchup on Monday.
