2A Boys BB: Shooting Woes Again Plague Bearcats

LACEY — The Bearcats could only muster 12 first-half points as River Ridge rolled past W.F. West 72-33 here Thursday night in Evergreen 2A Conference boys hoops action.

W.F. West (5-7, 3-3 league) started the game by throwing the ball away on its first four possessions, said Bearcat coach Ryan Robertson. Turnovers, mixed with poor Bearcat shooting, allowed River Ridge to take a 31-12 advantage at the intermission.

The Hawks continued to cruise in the second half, outscoring W.F. West 39-21.

“When you shoot 12 for 50 you’re not going to win a lot of games,” said Robertson, whose team was 0 of 13 from the perimeter. “The kids are playing hard and right now they are just really frustrated.”

Over its past two losses, W.F. West has shot a woeful 1 of 34 from beyond the arc.

“We haven’t been shooting well lately,” Robertson added. “It's supposed to be one of our strengths.”

Brock Wade and Yasser Khan each led the Bearcats in scoring with 8 points, while the four Bearcat seniors combined to score 10 points.

“We have to lick our wounds and somehow find a way out of this hole,” said Robertson. “We are a better basketball team than this.”

The Hawks had five players in double figures with Joel King scoring a game-high 12 points.

W.F. West will host Centralia on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
