2A Softball: Tigers Hold Off Aberdeen

Posted

Lauren Liseth isn’t about to let anyone forget she’s the Evergreen 2A Conference’s reigning offensive MVP.

Centralia’s senior shortstop had a single, a double and a triple — scoring 3 runs — with a stolen base in the Tigers’ 4-3 win over Aberdeen Tuesday night to open EvCo softball play.

Haley Riner added two hits and an RBI for the Tigers, and pitcher Erika Brower struck out seven.

“She’s got a number of things she can throw, and we’re happy as heck,” Tiger coach Ken Olson said. “She’s throwing good for us, and we’re in every game we’re playing, so far.”

Liseth led off the first with a double and came around on a blooper by Riner, and knocked a triple to lead off the third inning and scored on the same play via a throwing error.

Aberdeen scored two of its runs in the sixth inning on three straight base hits. With one out, Liseth threw out a runner at first and, after an overthrow to second base, second baseman Parker Pocklington made a fake throw home, and tagged out a fooled runner that had jumped off second.

Olson was also happy with the play of Molly Hull at catcher, and the offensive performance of the middle of the Tigers’ order.

Centralia (2-1, 1-0 league) is at River Ridge on Thursday.
