B Baseball: Pirates Hold Off Elks

Posted

ADNA — Adna pitcher Adam Hart was able to defuse a sticky situation in the top of the seventh inning and help the Pirates to a 5-4 nonleague win over Lake Quinault here Wednesday.

With the bases loaded, a 3-2 count and two outs, a Lake Quinault hitter fouled off two pitches before Hart struck him out to end the game.

Andrew Lawler was 1 for 1 with 2 RBIs, and Ryan McClain was 1-2 with an RBI double in the second inning.

Garrett Driver, Lawler and Hart handled the pitching duties for Adna.

“They’re working hard, and they’re very coachable. We definitely have seen improvement from last week to this week,” Pirate coach Rex Ashmore said. “We still strike out too many times, but we’re getting better.”

The Pirates (1-1) are at Napavine on Friday for a Central 2B League doubleheader.
