1A Boys: Loggers Chop Tenino

    TENINO — Dalton Ritchey was a perfect 10 of 10 from the field for 22 Logger points — including 15 in the first quarter that helped them go up 25-2 — and helped Onalaska top the host Beavers 76-29 here Friday night in SWW 1A League Evergreen Division boys basketball action.

    “In the first quarter, we were only able to get the ball across half-court five or six times,” Beaver coach Rod Enos said. “After they got out of their press, from there on we played — not even, but — a little bit better.

    “We moved the ball and did some things,” he added. “(Onalaska’s) a more talented, smarter, more physical team than we are. They beat us up and that was it.”

    Brady Stanley and Steven Nedved added 15 each for the Loggers, and Cody Naillon had 13.

    Josh Moss led Tenino with 8 points.

    Onalaska (17-0, 10-0 league) hosts Winlock Tuesday, while Tenino (1-15, 0-10 league) hosts Toledo the same night.

Spartans Sneak By Winlock

    WINLOCK — After going into the halftime with the lead over Forks, Winlock was outscored 23-14 in the second half and sustained a 32-30 Evergreen Division loss here Friday night in boys basketball action.

    “It was a heartbreaker,” Cardinal coach Ross Hojem said. “We gotta find a way to regroup.

    “It was a big game for us,” he added. “We were hoping to get into a pigtail game, but now that doesn’t look possible.”

    Bryson Coleman had a game-high 10 points, and also grabbed eight rebounds.

     “Our boys played hard, but we had 19 turnovers in the first half,” Hojem said. “In the third quarter, they came out and pressured us. We had 47 turnovers for the game. We just didn’t make good decisions in the full court.”

    Winlock (2-14, 2-8 league) plays at Onalaska Tuesday.

Toledo Hangs On to Beat Rainier

    RAINIER — The Mountaineers made a promising second-quarter run, but Toledo held on to earn the 46-42 SWW 1A League Evergreen Division win here Friday night in boys hoops action.



    The Indians jumped out to a 30-17 lead at halftime, but faltered in the second half as they could only muster a combined 16 points in the third and fourth quarters.

    “It was good for us to come out and finish,” said Toledo coach Scott Merzoian. “We got the win even though we didn’t play very well.”

    The Indians struggled shooting from the field Friday night as they sunk just 13 of 35 shots. Rainier didn’t shoot much better at 38 percent, but the Mountaineers went a meager 1 of 8 from the charity stripe.

    Toledo’s full-court pressure stymied the Rainier’s offense as they scored just 17 points in the opening half of play.

    DJ Herbert scored a team-high 11 points while also grabbing a team-high 7 rebounds for the Indians, while Keefer Askin chipped in 4 points and Jacob King scored 5.

    Toledo sophomore Jesse Wallace notched 10 points and Brycen Holmes added 7, along with three assists for the victors.

    The Indians (11-5, 8-2 league) travel to Tenino Tuesday.

Rochester Falls at Montesano

    MONTESANO — The Bulldogs continued their ascent up the SWW 1A League standings by knocking off third-place Rochester 63-46 here Friday night.

    Early this week Montesano stumped second-place Toledo at home with a 9-point win, then proceeded to ruin the Warriors’ Friday night.

    The game was tied at 16 after the first quarter of play, but the Bulldogs outscored Rochester 13-6 to close the first half.

    “After that first quarter things went downhill for us,” said Rochester coach Andrew Kernutt. “Montesano beat us up and down the floor and we couldn’t get any kind of flow on either side of the court.”

    Montesano outscored the Warriors 33-24 in the second half and, with the win, the Bulldogs are now tied with Rainier for fourth-place in the SWW 1A Evergreen Division standings.

    Jared Burkhardt scored a 17 points and Tyler McLemore chipped in with 5, while grabbing a nine rebounds.

    Rochester will travel to Rainier on Tuesday.
