2A/1A Boys Soccer: Warriors Slip Past Eatonville

ROCHESTER — The Warriors made one first-half goal hold up here Monday night in a 1-0 Evergreen 2A/1A League boys soccer win over Eatonville.

The Warriors threw the ball inbounds in the 14th minute, where Jameson Pasko corralled it on the outside and tapped it back to the the middle to Julius Sword, who pushed the ball past the Eatonville goalkeeper.

“It was a good game, very physical, and the heat kind of played into it,” Rochester coach Brian Ziese said. “A lot of guys were getting tired quicker than normal, but we knocked it around and did some good things.”

Sweeper Nicholas Taylor and goalie Jose Amaya played well, Ziese added, as did outside midfielder Edgar Arevalo.

Rochester (7-6, 7-3 league) will play at Montesano on Wednesday.

Beavers Fall to Hoquiam



TENINO — The Beavers kept it close, but couldn’t get a late goal to even things up with Hoquiam here in a 3-2 Evergreen 2A/1A League boys soccer loss Monday night.

Marius Schaeffer’s goal in the 34th minute put Tenino up 1-0, but Hoquiam knotted the score three minutes later and scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the second half for a 3-1 advantage.

Tenino’s Jonas Mellum then scored in the 59th minute, but the Beavers were unable to find the back of the net again.

“Overall, we played pretty good, except for a couple of defensive mistakes that cost us,” Tenino coach Kurt Brown said. “Our goalkeeper, Carter Thomas, for the most part did a pretty good job, and he got put in a couple bad positions and the defense didn’t help him.”

Tenino outshot Hoquiam, 18-14.

Tenino (4-7-1, 4-6 league) will play at Aberdeen on Wednesday, and will host Eatonville on Friday.
