1A Girls: Beavers Have Little Trouble With Rochester Girls

Posted

TENINO — The Beavers jumped out to a 26-3 lead after one quarter of play against Rochester, and built that lead to a 56-22 SWW 1A League Evergreen Division victory here Friday night.

It was just the kind of start Tenino coach Wanda Blanksma was looking for.

“I thought the girls came out very focused and business like,” she said. “They played with a lot of energy in the first half. We came out pretty flat in the third quarter. We also shot well, as well as we’ve shot all year. It was just a good first half for us.

Linsdey Elder and Dani Wall led Tenino in scoring with 14 and 12, respectively. Elder also had six steals and five rebounds.

“Lindsey had a great game tonight,” said Blanksma. “She played like I know she was capable of playing all along. It was a nice breakout game for her.”

For Rochester, just three girls scored. Danielle Ruege had 10 and Janice Knutz had 8.

Tenino (3-5 league) plays at Forks Tuesday.

MONTESANO — A big third-quarter defensive stand propelled the Loggers to a 55-37 SWW 1A League Evergreen Division girls hoops win over Montesano here Friday night.

Onalaska held the hosts to just a single point to 46-21 heading into the final quarter.

“That’s probably one of the best games we’ve played, especially being on the road. Montesano’s a tough place to play,” Logger coach Doug Ashmore said. “We jumped out on them and really played excellent basketball.”

Onalaska also got balanced scoring, with 12 points from Kalie Ritchey, 9 from Samantha Gordon, 7 from Sarah Barnes and Erica Wrzensinski, and 6 apiece from Autumn Durand, Bailee Neilson and Hailey Givens.
