Prep Softball: Hawks Stave Off Beavers’ Late Rally

Posted

TENINO — Although it was a 6-1 ballgame in the bottom of the seventh inning, Tenino made the most of a contest with 2A River Ridge here Friday night in nonleague softball action, falling 6-5 after a rally ended with the tying run on third base.

“We just couldn’t muster one more run,” Beaver coach Wanda Blanksma said. “I certainly was pleased with the fight that we put up.”

Lindsey Elder was a major part of the late rally, connecting on a two-RBI double and stealing two bases in the game. Elder, Dani Wall and Cassie Vance all had two hits in the game, and the Beavers tallied eight total to River Ridge’s five.

Tenino went scoreless through five innings, and allowed five runs in that span.

“It took us a while to make the adjustments we needed at the plate,” Blanksma said. “I thought the pitcher did a nice job of keeping us off balance, striking us out eight times.”

Tiffany O’Brien went the distance from the mound for the Beavers, and was commended for her performance by her coach.

“She threw a lot of ground ball outs and kept the ball down nice,” Blanksma said.

The Beavers had eight errors to the Hawks’ four in the game, which helped allow River Ridge build just enough of an advantage — as the score proved.

“On the defensive end of it, we were trying to work things out,” Blanksma said. “Once we get those errors shored up we’ll be in pretty good shape.”
