2A Soccer: Tigers, Bearcats Drop Soccer Openers

Posted

Centralia and Tumwater went into overtime Thursday night at Tiger Stadium, but the Tigers fell 2-1 on a free kick in an Evergreen 2A Conference soccer match.

It was a bit of an early wake-up call for the Tigers, according to coach Sue Parke.

“They needed it,” she said. “I’m glad it’s done, and glad they got it under their belts. Hopefully they can take things away that they can improve on.

“But they never quit and never hung their heads tonight.”

Prince Gundersen put the Tigers on the board in the first half, and the team had 12 corners that they were unable to convert — compared to Tumwater’s zero.

“We had several opportunities,” Parke said. “One of them went in but the official called it back.”

Centralia (0-1) plays at Aberdeen Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Bearcat Booters Fall to Black Hills

TUMWATER — W.F. West couldn’t climb out of an early hole in an EvCo soccer match with Black Hills, as the Wolves took a 2-1 win here Thursday night.

Black Hills scored in the fourth and eighth minutes, before Dennis Uy got the Bearcats on the board in the 21st minute.

“It was a good game,” Bearcat coach Tino Sanchez said. “We were in the hunt.”

Chehalis was outshot 10-5 in the contest, and Sanchez commended the play of Nolan Lininger.

“For someone who’s never played and plays football, he did great,” Sanchez said.

W.F. West (0-1) hosts Yelm Saturday at 2 p.m. in a nonleague contest.
