LACEY — Northwest Christian used two late-game 4-run innings in separate games of a doubleheader with Pe Ell here Monday night in nonleague boys baseball action, as the Navigators won 5-3 before taking a 10-0, six inning win in Game 2.

The Trojans combined for nine errors in two games — including five in the first.

“Tonight, as a whole, we’re pretty disappointed,” Trojan coach John Neal said. “We’ve had five practices so I’m expecting physical errors, but the mental errors not characteristic of where we should be.”

The Trojans jumped ahead 1-0 in third inning of the first game, before Northwest Christian tied the game in the fourth and proceeded to a 4-run fifth — courtesy of four Pe Ell errors. The two runs scored in the seventh by the Trojans would be the team’s final scoring of the day.

Richie Toepelt and Andrew Woodward were each 2 for 4 for Pe Ell, and Daniel Duncan didn’t allow a hit in three innings of mound duty.

Pe Ell had seven hits to NWC-Lacey’s four, but the Navigators committed just one error to the Trojans’ five.

In Game 2, the Navigators put up a 6-run second inning, before concluding the game in the sixth with a 4-spot.

“It was ugly,” Neal said. “We struck out 14 times as a team, and had two bad innings.”
