Soccer: Warriors Run Wild in 10-1 Rout of Castle Rock

ROCHESTER — Hat tricks in the first and second halves by Sheydan McCoy and Ricky Zamudio, respectively, helped the Warriors cruise to a 10-1 victory over Castle Rock here Tuesday in a nonleague soccer contest.

McCoy added another goal in the second half — and teammates Luis Garcia and Felipe Nunez also chipped in a goal — but Rochester coach Brian Ziese said the best shot of the night came from freshman Jonathan Castillo.

“He drilled one into the bottom right corner,” Ziese said. “It was just a great rip.”

The Warriors built a 9-0 advantage before allowing Castle Rock to a goal via a free kick.

“My defense played a pretty good game,” said Ziese, whose team allowed just four shots on goal.

Ziese said that a key to the victory was meeting the team’s goal of scoring within the first five minutes.

“They did it in four,” he said. “When you put the pressure on the other team early, you’re never playing from behind.”
