TOLEDO — The Indians rode a big game from post Joe Jordan to a 62-48 SWW 1A League Evergreen Division win over Rochester here Friday night, securing at least second place in the league standings.

Jordan posted 19 points and hauled in 15 rebounds, helping the Indians to a 47-33 advantage on the glass.

Toledo (13-5, 10-2 league) held high-scoring Rochester forward Jared Burkhardt to 14 points, including 9 in the first half.

“He’s a great shooter. We were going to have a guy on him and deny him as much as possible,” Toledo coach Scott Merzoian said. “We were just trying to make it much more difficult for him.”

The Indians went on a 19-3 run to start the fourth quarter and stretch their lead to 56-38, effectively icing Rochester.

The Warriors were without 6-foot-5 inch center Mike Kent, leaving Toledo to take advantage in the paint. In addition to Jordan’s big numbers, Alex Teitzel scored 9 and grabbed 11 rebounds.

“Jordan had an outstanding game,” Merzoian added. “I think we really worked the ball over inside.”

Merzoian also praised the play of DJ Herbert, Keefer Askin and Jacob King in the full-court press.

Brandon Canales scored 13 for Rochester, and Kyle Tullis added 6. Askin scored 11 for the Indians.

Toledo hosts Forks on Tuesday, while Rochester (9-9, 7-5 league) is at Onalaska Tuesday.

Note: Montesano was a 49-34 winner over Rainier Friday night, putting the Bulldogs in a tie with Rochester for third-place in the Evergreen standings.
