The Bearcats made some adjustments and downed R.A. Long, 4-2, in nonleague girls tennis action Monday in the Mint City.

W.F. West swept the doubles side and got a win from No. 1 singles play Kyla Richards against the Lumberjills’ Regan Swier, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.

“After Kyla dropped the first set, she did a really nice job of making some adjustments in the second and third sets,” W.F. West coach Jack State said.

In doubles action, No. 1 duo Hannah Cummings and Payton Rothlin defeated R.A. Long’s Megan Meharg and Bethany Marlow 6-0, 6-0. Emma Lund and Mya Davis defeated Lexie McKee and Keesha Page 6-0, 6-0, and Ivy Alexander and Danielle Dugo wrapped up the sweep, beating Anna Brigdon and Melissa Tran, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

“Our third doubles team, both sophomores, made a few little adjustments and I thought they really did well,” State said. “The things I liked about today was everybody being smart, making adjustments and sticking to them.”

The Bearcats (3-1 overall) will open league play hosting Tumwater on Wednesday.

Tigers Sweep Doubles to Beat Washougal

Centralia’s doubles teams went 3-0 and the Tigers picked up a nonleague 4-2 win over Washougal Monday afternoon in the Hub City.

Jaycee Foster and Hannah Jeffries won 6-1, 6-0 in the first doubles match; Sydney Creel and Hayden Blaser won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles; and Hannah Gundersen and Taviana Keahey won 6-0, 6-1 in the last doubles match.

Mali Christian’s 6-3, 6-2 win over Maddie Gregory in the No. 2 singles match sealed the team victory for the Tigers.

“Mali played consistent tennis to move her opponent around the court, and she secured the win for the team,” Centralia coach Deb Keahey. “Mali is normally a doubles player, but she showed her singles talent today. She played hard-core, competitive singles and used her doubles skills at the net to put on a show today.”

Centralia will play at Mark Morris today.
