1B Boys: Acorns Headed to District Finals

LONGVIEW — The Acorns, for the fourth straight season, are headed to the State 1B Boys Basketball Tournament.

Oakville gutted out a 55-46 win over King’s Way Christian in the District IV 1B Boys Basketball Tournament here Monday night to seal state tickets and advance to the district title game.

The Knights and Acorns faced off earlier this season in Oakville, with the hosts winning by 2 points.

“They’re a young team, and they’ve got good athletes,” Acorn coach Steve Reinitz said. “We match up pretty close, and I just think the experience of our seniors came through about midway through the fourth quarter.”

Cody Berentsen scored 11 of his 19 points in the third quarter for Oakville, and Tucker Reinitz — a senior who will play in his fourth-straight state tournament — went 4 of 4 from the foul line in the final minutes to help seal the victory.

Rhyse Pettit added 10 points for the winners.

The win sets Oakville up against Lake Quinault for the fourth time this season. The Acorns won one of the three previous matchups in four overtimes in Oakville, but lost a district seeding game by 8 points — after leading by 20 at one point — last Thursday.

Oakville (13-6) and Lake Quinault face off in Montesano on Saturday, starting at 8 p.m.
