Baseball: Chinooks Sneak Past Rochester

ROCHESTER — The Warriors held an 8-1 advantage over Kalama going into the third inning, before allowing the Chinooks to pull away down the stretch in a 10-8 loss here Tuesday night in nonleague baseball action.

Kalama scored five in the third, and two in the fourth and fifth innings, capitalizing on four Rochester errors.

“I think we were kind of relaxed at the plate,” Warrior coach Jerry Striegel said. “It was our first game and we played kind of nonchalant most of the ballgame.

“The enthusiasm didn’t seem to be there.”

It was there early on, though, as Rochester took advantage of three walks and a hit batter in the first inning to rattle off five runs. The team also had five of its nine hits in the second.

Brian Cordell had three singles and as many RBIs, while Chris Bishop went 2 for 4 with a double and a triple.

Striegel commended the play of Cordell and Bishop, who started on the mound for the Warriors.

“Overall, I was very happy with the way some of our inexperienced guys played,” he said. “We just have to come out a little more focused and ready to play.”

Rochester (0-1) will open SWW 1A League Evergreen Division play Thursday, as it plays host to a doubleheader with Forks.
