HOQUIAM — The Bearcats got 18 hits as they cruised to a 7-1 win over Hoquiam to open their Evergreen 2A Conference season here on Tuesday.

Teresa Stoudemire led W.F. West by going 3 for 4 with a two-run homer in the second inning.

Dani Braun and Marissa Reynolds each went 3 for 5 with three singles and Reynolds added two RBIs.

“We were much more aggressive a the plate,” said W.F. West coach Mike Keen. “We did a better job with our pitch selection and weren’t trying to do too much with the ball.”

Seniors Tia Bradley and Caitlin Linehan both went 2 for 4 with Linehan coming inches from a home run when she nailed a double in the first inning that hit the top of the fence and bounced back into play.

Haley Graham pitched a complete game for the Bearcats giving up three hits, walking three and striking out two.

“Haley really kept them off balance and mixed up her pitches well,” said Keen of Graham, who also went 2 for 4 from the dish with two singles.

W.F. West played errorless softball for the first time this season and turned three double plays on the day.

The Bearcats will host Elma on Thursday at Recreation Park.
