2A Softball: Homer-Happy Bearcats Drub Rams

LACEY — W.F. West used Monday’s nonleague softball contest with 3A North Thurston as an opportunity to get a trio of underclassmen a few innings of work in the circle.

And the offense provided plenty of support.

The Bearcats slammed out four home runs and 22 hits in an 18-7 win, scoring in all but the third inning.

“We hit well, and we didn’t make any errors, which is a big plus,” Bearcat coach Mike Keen said. “And we threw a freshman and two sophomores today, and they did pretty well.”

Freshman Ashlee Vadala worked the first three innings, with sophomore Lexi Strasser and Kim Frazier throwing two apiece to close things out. The trio combined to strike out seven, allow nine hits and walk three.

The offense, though, stole the show. Jessica McKay hit two home runs — giving her three this season, in two games — while Ali Graham and Strasser each homered. Caitlin Reynolds went 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles, Roni Braun was 3 for 5, Tessa Wollan went 5 for 5 and Ashley Hoven was 3 for 4.

W.F. West (2-0) will take on Olympia in another nonleague game at the RAC in Lacey on Wednesday, and will play at Ellensburg Friday afternoon. The Bearcats will spent Friday night in Selah and play a doubleheader against Selah on Saturday.
