2A Boys Basketball: Second Half Powers Lynden Past W.F. West

MOUNT VERNON — Lynden outscored W.F. West 40-19 in the second half to cruise to a 73-46 win in a 2A regional boys basketball game here Saturday.

W.F. West will face North Kitsap on Wednesday at 9 p.m. at the SunDome in Yakima in a loser-out game to begin the state tournament. If W.F. West wins, they will advance into the double elimination state tournament and will face No. 2 Selah at 9 p.m. on Thursday.

Lynden’s Christian Zamora led all scorers with 29 points, shooting 9 of 16 from the field and 4 of 6 from behind the arc. Teammate Clayton Whitman added 24 points shooting 10 of 17 from the field and 3 of 4 from 3-point range.

Jordan Thomas led W.F. West with 13 points and Bailey Cooper chipped in 10 points.



Lynden shot 51 percent from the field while W.F. West shot 42 percent and was outrebounded by Lynden, 30-22.

The Bearcats lead 17-15 after one quarter, but Lynden took the lead in the second quarter and led by six at halftime. Lynden’s big second half pushed the Lions to the big win.

Lynden begins the state tournament on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against the winner of a first-round game between Fife and District 4 runner-up Columbia River.
